IN THE CLASSROOM

The way we communicate has changed beyond recognition over the last decade. Photos are no longer just a personal record of a special moment; technology and social media have made them available for instant communication and self-expression. Photos, emojis, and other visual images are now firmly embedded into our communicative repertoire, part of the language or languages we speak.

Photography is a great way to communicate without words, to share feelings, stories, heritage, everyday activities and more; but it can also generate and trigger words and facilitate learning. Images are a powerful stimulus to learning development and delivery cross-curruculum.

Inspired by Wendy Ewald and many other innovative minds who crossed our path and collaborated in projects, we have developed creative methodologies to use photography in the classroom with any age, any abilities, and any subject.

PICTURE THIS! ESOL & PHOTOGRAPHY

Images are a powerful stimulus to language development and delivery. Photography can bring colour and life to the ESOL classroom, create the basis for rich conversations and debates and help learners to develop a better understanding of each other as well as themselves.

You can download our toolkit for free and find information about our methodology and training here.

MATHS, LITERACY & PHOTOGRAPHY

Fotosynthesis believes that education should be a two-way learning process and that children are given opportunities to explore participatory and collaborative artistic approaches to the curriculum, promoting self-development in children and teachers.

We have designed free teacher and parents resources that will soon be available online. If you are interested in the meantime to use them or be trained, contact us.
