Fotosynthesis uses photography and lens based arts to represent issues and communities ethically and as well as catalyst tools for individuals and communities to express themselves, connect, grow and learn.
Our approach is human centered, nurtured by our endless creativity and guided by our ethics and belief that images unlock silences, feelings, memories, emotions and creativity.
Photography and moving image making generate reflection, dialogue and stories. It is therapeutic and has a huge creative potential as a tool for people to explore the world we live in and our surroundings, to connect with our inner-self and with others to create empathy, thus contributing to building a more compassionate and peaceful society.
Each of our project is unique and tailored to meet the needs of the participants, literacy levels, the aims and objective of your organisation and programme, the budget, the timeframe, location and logistic limitations.
Nowadays, one does not need extensive training to pick up and use a camera and create instantly powerful images and messages. But at Fotosynthesis, we encourage people to take time. Everything is a creative process that needs time to evolve and mature: time to meet new people and connect, time to listen, time to play, time to build trust, time to build consensus as a group, time to think about images before creating them, time to explore, time to have discussions, time to think and reflect, time to make mistakes and learn from them, time to observe, time to create, time to process images. Time to be. Time to create empathy and respect.
We use different methods such as meditation, body movement, games, music, drawing, visual and participatory action research and therapeutic tools, and different type of cameras from DSLR, compact, smart phones, iPad to camera-less or pinhole depending on the project’s needs and limitations.
We design and deliver short or long-term participatory photography processes involving a specific group or community around a collective theme to amplify voices, advocacy, or research.
ONLINE CONNECTING WORKSHOPS
The pandemic has not stopped us to care for people and to bring creativity, self-reflection, learning, fun and safe spaces to connect and share while being in our homes in front of a computer.
LEARNING THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY
We believe education should be experiential and two-ways. We encourage the use of photography in the classrooms to inspire teaching staff and parents to use images as an educational tool.
PEACEBUILDING & THERAPEUTIC
We believe photography and moving images unlock stories and memories, foster dialogue, and can support processes of reconciliation and healing through active listening and empathy.
